Synopsis

The Super Furry Animals perform inside a brightly colored cartoon house in the desert, with the band's live-action heads and instruments attached to animated bodies. Their surroundings turn into a series of spectacular disasters: giant waves, tornadoes, lava, falling snow, an avalanche and finally a nuclear explosion. The band members ride surfboards, flee in a bobsled and continue playing as the world collapses around them. The video ends with the group frozen in place, revealed as two-dimensional cutouts.

Factoids & Trivia

• The band's heads and instruments were filmed as live-action footage in London, then combined with animated bodies and environments.

• The video was produced for the single's 2000 release, although "Do or Die" first appeared on the 1999 album *Guerrilla*.

• Melody Maker selected the clip as its "Video of the Week" for January 12-18, 2000.

• The video was later included on the DVD edition of *Songbook: The Singles, Vol. 1*, the band's greatest-hits collection.

• Gruff Rhys said the song's title was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's 1942 Quit India speech. Its deliberately simple pop presentation contrasts that historical reference with the song's playful lyrics.

• "Do or Die" reached No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart, making it one of the band's higher-charting singles.
