Phantom of the Opera Broadway Play, The Chair Trick?

I was wondering, if anyone who has seen or performed the Broadway play, Phantom of the Opera, how they do the trick when the Phantom is sitting in his chair at the very end, and then he vanishes, and they only find his mask and cap lying in the chair? Me and my Drama class really want to know, and especially my drama teacher has been going to see the play everytime she's in NYC, and has been wondering how they do it. So if you can help, please tell me how they do it.
Thanks, Anthony

I believe there is a trap door in front of the chair into which he falls and the mask and the cape is preset as he is sitting there...i could be wrong though...good luck!
